La Vie Est Un Rêve, Moi Un Miroir met een klein convex spiegeltje in een koffertje als in een juwelenkistje, kan gezien worden als de visuele verbeelding van een stukje uit de Lao Zi  (H 47): “Om de wereld te kennen, hoef je de deur niet uit. Om de loop van de sterren te zien hoef je niet uit je raam te kijken”. Alles is voltallig in onszelf aanwezig. ‘Realiteit’, dat wil zeggen: de projectie van het eigen bewustzijn. Het is het ‘eigen’ bewustzijn dat de kwaliteit en de geur ervan bepaalt. In de dhammapada roept de boeddha op om vooral alles te beschouwen als een (bliksem-)flits, een luchtbel, een dauwdruppel of een luchtspiegeling, d.w.z als iets zó kortstondigs en van voorbijgaande aard, dat van niets gezegd kan worden dat het enige intrinsieke standvastigheid of zelfs maar eigenheid bezit.  In het hindoeïsme is er een veel gebruikt motief van het beeld van Krishna diep verzonken in diens eigen spiegelbeeld in de vloer van de spiegelzaal waarop de schepper-god is neergehurkt – zichzelf vergetende in zijn eigen schepping.
