To make art means not praying, it is not science, no philosophy, not making love, en yet it includes all of these. (…) Art synthesises, weaves things together, caught in one image. In other words, art always creates a whole. Within it’s wide range of appearances, this is what art does, again and again. As such art is fundamentally different from any other field of human research, which always seemingly needs to split, define and devise things. (…) Art unites that which seems to be separate and is therefore a creative process. Art adds something to reality and thus making it bigger or wider than before…  Better and more humble to enunciate is to say art is constantly recreating reality. Where art emerges, something of a wider or deeper reality is perceived. (…) Truth, in seeking a way to become visible, always meets newness. Truth is always authentic, which is very different from original. Authentic is that which is in contact with the source field. And even when a source looks similar to the one yesterday, a source is constantly fresh and renewing. – The true artist is an amazing luminous fountain (Bruce Nauman).

Kunst maken is geen gebed, het is geen wetenschap, geen filosofie, geen liefde bedrijven, en toch is het dit alles ook. (…) Kunst is synthetiserend, zij kan de dingen samenbrengen, in één beeld vatten. Met andere woorden, kunst schept altijd totaliteit, in al haar deelverschijningen doet zij dat telkens opnieuw. En precies hierin is zij wezenlijk tegengesteld aan ieder ander onderzoeksgebied dat altijd op de een of andere manier de dingen moet opsplitsen, definiëren, analyseren. (…) Omdat kunst samen-brengt wat nog niet samen leek te zijn is zij scheppend, voegt zij toe aan, maakt zij de werkelijkheid a.h.w. groter of ruimer. Beter, en iets nederiger, is te stellen dat zij de werkelijkheid telkens vernieuwt; her-schept. Waar kunst plaatsvindt, daalt altijd iets neer wat een grotere realiteit omvat (…) Waarheid die een weg zoekt zich uit te drukken, vindt altijd nieuwheid. Waarheid is altijd oorspronkelijk, wat iets heel anders is dan origineel zijn. Oorspronkelijk is datgene wat in contact staat met de bron, en ook al lijkt de bron op haar beeld van gisteren, ze is toch altijd nieuw en fris. – The true artist is an amazing luminous fountain (Bruce Nauman).
